Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never written a grant before—where should I start?

I'm glad you're here! Our package offerings are a great place to start. All package options offer access to a 4-part  workshop series, our workbook with guided activities to support you from getting organized through submission, plus a 60-minute consultation! Still unsure where to start? Book a 30 minute introduction call!

Do you provide price adjustments?

We may be able to adjust the program pricing based on financial need. Please be sure to book a 30 minute introduction call before purchasing a plan to ensure you get the best price for you and your nonprofit.

Do you only offer grant writing training, or do you write grants as well?

Coaching, editing and feedback are my main consultation activities. However, I am open to supporting components of your grant if able! If interested in this, let’s connect! I am always open to expanding my services to meet your needs!

How much do your services cost?

Check out our price guide here: Our Services. If a
specific offering is not listed, let’s connect! I’d love to hear what support you are seeking and if able to support, I can provide you with a custom quote.

Where is the GWBC videos and workbook after I purchased a package?

You can find the 4 part grant writing foundation videos and workbook by navigating to your account (in the top right corner of the navigation bar) and click 'My Programs'. There you should be see 'Foundations of Grant Writing (Videos + Workbook).'

Do I need to have a 501(c)(3) to apply for foundation grants?

The short answer is no! While this is often required for most foundation grants, if you have a fiscal sponsor with 501c3 status you can still apply! Also, for-profit businesses (especially small businesses) and individuals can apply for grants!

Do you work with organizations outside of Chicago?

Yes! GWBC offerings can be offered 100% remotely to accommodate your schedule and location!

What makes your approach different?

My goal for you is to develop the skills needed to build out and sustain a streamlined grant writing system within your organization so you do not need to rely on external grant writers for writing your proposals. It's time to invest in you instead of others!

What types of organizations do you work with?

I have the most experience working with nonprofits of any size, including grassroots organizations with low or no budgets to large institutions. I am also experienced in grants for small businesses and for individuals (like teachers, artists, etc)!

What kind of grants do you focus on?

The current pre-recorded workshop series focuses on foundation grants, however GWBC aims to expand to federal service grants, sponsorship
requests and more in the future.
If a specific offering is not listed, let’s connect! I am always open to expanding my services to meet your needs!

Can you guarantee funding?

The intention of Grant Writing Boot Camp, LLC is to coach you on sustainable grant writing skills to enhance your internal processes on grant selection through submission. While funding is not guaranteed, the skills you learn will help improve your chances of being funded.

How long does it take to write a grant?

Timeline depends on the requirements of the RFP, but my general rule of thumb is 1-2 months for beginners writing LOIs and microgrants. As grants get larger and more complex, I recommend 3-6 months. This will vary based on your experience!

What documents do I need to apply for a grant?

You can find more detailed information in the first Foundation Grants workshop, but generally here is a short list of common required documents: IRS 501c3 determination letter, Form 990, past financial audits, organizational budget, list of board of directors/ diversity breakdown, leadership/ diversity breakdown, special requirements (DUNS, etc.). Documents vary by grant!
